WHO WE ARE

The choir began its activities in 1988 in the city of Treinta y Tres, rehearsing for the first time on August 3; its first public performance took place on October 21st   that same
year. From its inception until December 2009 its Director was Maestro Alejandro Guillermo, and at present the direction of Master Malena Rivarola, being assisted since 1994 by teacher Maria Onima Lucas. Between the years 2004 and 2006 the group has also counted with the collaboration of Assistant Marta Pereira.
Every year this choir receives the invitation of different local and regional institutions
to participate in several events such as seminars, anniversaries, and some cultural events. These activities create a fluid interchange with almost every public and private institution in the city of Treinta y Tres and surrounding area.
In its 20 years of life the choir has held over 500 performances in Uruguay as well as abroad. Some of these most important events are listed below :

  • Several performances in Montevideo-Uruguay (Institute Juan XXIII, University of the Republic, National Parliament, Catholic University, etc...)
  • In 1993, the choir promoted and actively participated in the performance of a  complete opera held for the first time in the City of Treinta y Tres. The chosen piece for this occasion was  “Die Zaüberflöte"  by W. A. Mozart.

This event has become a tradition in our “olimareñas” (nickname given to the people who born in Treinta y Tres) Christmases.
  • In the year of 1999, Pro-Música participated in the First International Festival of Choirs of Idaho (USA). While there, the choir also spent 6 days visiting Salt Lake City, having the opportunity of participating in various concerts, and so interchanging experiences with some other conductors, organists, and members of the famous Mormon Tabernacle´s Choir.
  • On July 11, 2000 the choir  received  the excellent Northwest Girlchoir, a female choir from the city of Seattle - USA, sharing a concert and a whole day together.
  • In the year of 2001 it organized the visit and concerts given by two European chorales :  the “Wiener Vokalensemble” from Vienna – Austria,  and the chorale “Verge del Cami”  from Catalonia - Spain.
  • In 2004 Pro-Música also received a choir from Poland, the Polytechnical School Choir from Chestokowa.
  • At the beginning of 2005, a long yearned project was finally achieved : the launching of its first CD, entitled "Cantares de Treinta y Tres", counting with the support of the city´s  Municipal Government. This CD contains the folkloric and
academic work of musicians born all of them in Treinta y Tres.
